Lost
Ivy and me woke up on sunday wondering why our computers and mobiles had different times from our house clocks and watches. Australian gov has a habit of changing the daylight saving dates... daylight savings normally ends tis time of the year, but the government conveniently added another week to it without much anouncements. Ivy & me dread the end of daylight savings.. no more sunlight when we come back from work. For some reason, the longer nights seem to effect us negatively as we age. Anyway, it was still sunny over the weekend, so we continued our bush walking discovery adventures... tis time to a place called ted norwood reserve. We spent most of our time getting lost coz the tracks weren't very well marked out... thank goodness for gps ^_^

Reading your post, I was starting to think we had forgotten to turn our clocks back when it occurred to me we hadn't, just as I reached your line about the government.
Enjoy the sun! We're having rains here. Yippee!!!!!!!!!!
why yippee?? you like ta rain??
The time on my mobile phone changed so that's why I thought I could still make it for church on Sunday but I got a double whammy instead - the time was incorrect and so was my assumption that the service started only at 10am.
I haven't done any sporting activity so the last 1 year and I'm so unfit but I'd love to do some trekking.
at least your pants ain't getting tight :-P
We love the rain here in Melbourne, Ben - I've filled my tanks and now I've got 2000L of water to use :D
On the subject of daylight savings - I was ALMOST an hour early for golf till I realised that we can't be teeing off in the darkness.
kev.. how could you be an hour early?? if you had adjusted your time 1hr backwards, you would have been an hour late :-P
Dude - haha you're absolutely right. Things get a bit confused at 6am in the morning... daylight savings doesn't help!
2000L?? wat type of rainwater tank did u install?? those wall types look cool ^_^
I got 2x1000L membrane type tanks which stand on steel frames... I'm looking on Ebay for a pump now... Saw an Onga one which looked good, plus it has a pressure switch to turn it on and off when flushing. But its $300+. There's a cheaper 'Pump King' one for just under $200... For such low duty, I'm looking in the <8m suction and <40m head range... Trying to maintain the same level of water usage this year, with the baby.
<40M head.. wow..you will get a blue black when ta water hits you ^_^
Haha yeah... but the idea is not to stand there and blast yourself with water... :P
Considering the elevation between the pump discharge and cistern is only about 2.5m... and distance also not so far... maybe no need that much head... what are your thoughts, pump expert?
most plumbing handbooks recommends a min of 300mm Head pressure at the outlet of taps (seems pretty low rite? ^_^) I am kinda kiasu, so i normally design for 1m at ta tap. for a single storey home, i don't see you needing more than 20m head (you can even get away with 10m head). on the suction side.. i don't think there are any centrifugal pump which can "suck". i do hope your suction line is not a -ve feed. all this is based on the assumption that you piping is mostly 18mm - 20mm in diameter.
me no pump expert.. ironically, i have never really dismantled a pump before :-P but i do quite a fair bit of pumping system designs.. more of a theoretical man than hands on.
Sounds like good advice - I will be super-kiasu and get the one with 40m head. Pump suction is at lower elevation than the tank outlet so it will be +ve feed... the suction nozzle is 1" BSP but I've got a sh*tload of 3/4" PVC tubing at home so I'll be reducing down. This will really put my plumbing skills to da test, esp teeing off then tying into the 2 cisterns.
You will probably hear about it soon enough if I flood the house :D
you will be ok. it's quite easy to work with pvc pipes. just glue them at ta joints ^_^ i installed quite a few of the pvc pipings for the production filling lines myself.. quite simple :-P
Looks easy enough, but I guess I won't know till I start!!!
What glue do you use? Brand/type will be useful :)
i think most hardware shops like tradelink, bunnings and reece only carry a generic brand for their pvc glue. you need to get a primer (red color) and the adhesive (green color).
So, do I apply primer on both surfaces to be joined? Then the adhesive when the primer has dried?
Funny how no one is interested in discussing plumbing :D

Yup you are correct. The primer dries really fast (about a min or so). Apply primer on both surface to join. Then apply adhesive evenly over the primer of one of the join surfaces and press both surfaces together. I suggest you wear some disposable latex gloves.. messy exercise. Flush the pipe before using it.. unless you dun mind a glue smell in the water :-P
I would have thought tat yy will be interested in pumps and pipes ^_^ i guess his ipod touch has kaput or something like tat.. hee hee
OK man will give it a go. Probably won't be for a couple of weeks tho, as the bundle of joy arrives (insyaallah) tomorrow, and I guess we'll be pretty flat out from then on...
wow.. exiting ^_^
so has the bundle of joy arrived yet??
During my days at commissioning water treatment systems, I had to do some quick fix-it plumbing. Get a PVC pipe cutter too - very handy.
Congrats, Kev! When did the bun pop out of the oven?
