A little late with my weekly blog entry. Mainly due to Australia day long weekend. My blog entries this year feels like deja-vu from last. Again, ivy and me went to Darling Harbour to witness the Oz day celebrations. The theme this year was the same as the last.. i think it is the same every year.. honouring the migrants that came to tis country and made her what it is. I have always enjoyed the smaller fireworks displays with accompanying music more that the massive ones for NYear... it just feels closer.

Yes. I'm 1st to comment. Nice fireworks. Take it from a tripod? Nice foot... must be Ivy's. What is the ring doing there? Is that wedding ring?
Thank you for the updates.
"thank you for the updates" ??? ehhhh writing an email from work eh? ^_^
tat's a toe ring on ivy's foot.. dun ask me why you need a ring on ta toe.. a girl thing
didn't use a tripod.. you don't really need one for fireworks.. it's bright enough.. just make sure you take as many shots as possible.. it's very much luck ^_^
Ah...back on deck at last. Was wondering what happened.
Any new lens you bought?
What 'girl' thing? You're generalising.
I like the Mickey/Mini mat though :P
AKhoo..nope.. no new lenses. i have spent enough on the camera for the time being. might be tempted to get the nikon 18-200VR..but not unless i know i am going for some backpacking trip or something along those lines ^_^
Ah Han, it is a girl thing... why wud guys wanna have a toe ring? or any ring :-P
Lord of the Toe's Ring! Reasons ..
1. Ring too big to her fingers
2. put weights on toe, increase toe's strength
3. removes odor from foot
4. wants attention at her foot, then leg 7 so on
5. make sound like the India dance thing.
6. for luck
7. destroy curses
Wei Yang,
Some good imaginative reasons that....
Ah Ho, I feel that the VR lens is not good value for money. It does a little better than the standard zoom lens. I think I'll stick to fixed lens - more expensive & less flexible but the quality of the pics is just supreme
Harharhar ... Wei Yang, looks like you've given it some serious thought aa!
Ben, not a girl thing. Sorry to say but it's a very aa-neh thing :P
Check out the new 12-24mm f2.8?
Apparently destined to be a classic...
siapa anonymous? yeah the 12-24mm f2.8 wud be a lens worth considering ^_^
i will be getting the goat a toe ring for his bday ^_^.. a real heavy one :-P
ah han..i honestly dunno why ppl wear toe rings..it sure looks uncomfortable and i m not a person who looks at a person's feet :-P
and i agree with karen.. it aint a girl thing... you'd find me wearing a toe ring... but i also know guys who wear more rings than some girls!!
Sorry, that last anonymous was me- haven't quite got the hang of tapping text out on an iPod, which is just about my only source of music these days...
To add my 10¥: the same people who paint their toe nails would find toe rings useful.
First you get the lens, and then you say: oh, it ain't a DX lens! Got to get me a D3! :-)
Oops I did it again! Buggrit...
kinda suspected it was you yiing chai.. only you and alan are into nikon stuff in tis group.. lingie is a canon person ^_^ and i dun think the goat n kevin are into such stuff :-P
i suppose you are using an ipod touch? how's it?
Am seriously thinking of the 17-55mm fixed 2.8 lens. Happy that it can be mounted on D80.
I'm sure y'all have heard of mishaps with people wearing rings and losing their fingers. Toe rings can do the same but then again, you can still walk & run with one less toe - that's assuming that you're not wearing it on the big toes! Can get choked too if your partner is into feet fetish....
the tamron 17-50mm f2.8 seems value for $$ and there is also the sigma 18-50mm f2.8.
Oh my goodness ... it's all about camera things. I only know that "f" thing = focal ratio & it is important. The Smaller number the it is better. Just checked the internet and to my surprise there is camera with f/0.95 !!! It's Canon 7 series and it is classic.
Enjoy, your photography.
Have to say that I have given up on SLRs and decided for a point-n-shoot. My priority is size and speed. Very useful when one's trying to take pictures of quick moving fishes while trying to stay neutrally bouyant underwater!
Though having said that it is the darn bigger flash that I would need if I want to stop taking pics with a greenish tinge but it would take up a whole lotta space.
Not much to say about toe rings though...
Alan: I've got the 17-55 f2.8. It cost more than the body did when I got it, but I've never regretted that. Fantastic image quality, and something else they call "bokeh", which AFAIK means "out of focus background".
The only thing about it is that it's a DX lens and so will force the D3 that I'm lusting after to automatically blank off parts of its full-frame CCD.
Aiyah, since you got me started:

The iPod? Sound quality off its internal DAC and op-amp sucks big time! I've got all my music encoded in ALC, and more than half the time the internal amp clips - and this through the bog standard white earbuds.
I actually shudder to think what people are actually hearing when they listen to MP3's! No wonder hifi kaki's are going extinct... no one appreciates good sounding stuff any more in the iPod age.

LP,
I suppose you don't want a big camera when you go snorkeling or diving. However for all other photography, I'd happily carry the extra weight & bulk for photo quality you will appreciate for life.
YYee,
Yes, I do know how much it costs but that's a gimme for more serious prosumer photography. Are you using the D300 now? The D300 has 51 focus pts. How many does the D3 have?
WeiYang,
Sorry-lah, it's always easier to talk about our passion. How are your kids? Any more coming?
51 focal points...seems a bit excessive. Have not really looked at the specs for the D300. I know my boss was thinking of getting it. Then again, he's really into photography. Takes weekend trips to parts and forests to take photos of birds and stuff.
This tread seems to have gathered 2 main topics...toe rings and cameras. Not much relation. But then again...what the heck.
Ok, forgot to say...Happy Chinese New Year...Gong He Fatt Choi...Here's wishing a healthy and wealthy happy new year.
i think we have concluded the topic on toe rings...we jus dun do it ^_^
camera topic will always be on-going. there will always be new camera toys to talk about. sometimes i wonder why i even bother reading up on new cameras and new lenses. it's really no use having all the gud gear in the world and not have the time to travel to new places to shoot stuff.
there won't be any blog for last weekend. it rained practically everyday. but i will put something up for CNY ^_^
Ben,
You can always do nudes - there'll be lots to talk about then!
When I was in US, an American colleague told me he has a paid hobby as a semi-pro photographer. He gave me his website and when I looked at the stuff he did, I didn't realise he was into "it" - he took mainly nude photos of African American females. It was artistic but....
I second Ben's comments about having the best gear in the world, but not having enough subjects to shoot...
But then again: if a once-in-a-lifetime snapshot flits by, I'd rather have a real fast camera with real fast glass on it!
I know all about the carpenter and his tools, but the carpenter has got (really) all the time in the world for perfection. I've noticed that most snapshots are either make or break. Hmm...now that I come to think of it, could be because most of my photos are of my kids (Kat has got the same aversion to getting phtographed as does Ivy) - and they don't stay still for anything :-)
Alan, I think the D3 has got 51 focus points as well, but with no fast way to select them I'd prefer the ol' AF-lock and pan method.
Oh yes, happy Chinese New Year to all.
I will be holding a small gathering tomorrow (10 Feb) from 2 to 6pm so if anyone reading is in the vicinity please feel free to pop by.
happy rat year to all of you out there.. and to us rats.. have a great rat year....
I wonder who was the anonymous poster who just invited everyone to his/her place....
Difficult to go :)...
Ok, I'll add my 2 cents into the carpenter and his tools discussion. I am of the opinion that a good carpenter does not need great tools, but a poor carpenter does not necessarily do well with the best tools. I'm a poor carpenter with average tools.
Alan, the problem with nudes is that the pictures will probably end up being very blurry...unless our cameras have great anti-shake features :)...then again it depends on the subject...blurry pic may be better too.
bah... i would rather shoot a porn movie than shoot artsy nude shots ^_^
