I am Back

I can't believe that it has been over 2 months since i last updated this blog. If Yiing Chai had not prompted me about my inaction, i probably would not have bothered to do anything :-P Can't really say that i have been lazy. Lots have been happening.

Work has been hectic coz my manager resigned and i was offered her position. She only gave 2 weeks notice, thus the crazy handover ordeal. I am still trying hard to get everything in order. I will manage.

Ivy and me were back in Spore/Msia for a few days in early October (5 days to be exact). SIA was offering really cheap return tickets but i only had a few off days. It was super rush, but i am glad that i made the short trip back. The older i get, the more i miss having family around ( i know i keep repeating this line). I didn't get to catch up with most friends coz of the short time. Sorry....

They following are snapshots from the last couple of weeks. YYee has been reminding me about the photography club that i suggested to everyone. I will make the effort to get it going !! Expect an email from me in regards to this soon.

Ivy and me had a simple picnic at Penrith. I made a vain attempt at climbing this tree.... knees just can't handle the strain anymore :(

I try to play badminton whenever i can. Ivy found a badminton group for me join...but they play rather infrequently. Ah well... begger can't be choosers. Picture of my cousin HJing (visiting frm melb) and me.

Posting tis photo without permission :-P (Krn, buzz me if you want me to remove tis photo ^_^) Just had to post it coz Teagan looks like a photocopy of karen ^_^ The khoo's were in Sydney for a visit in late Sept. Good to catch up with them.

Guess where i am. Ivy and me managed to get really good deal for a few days stopover here

A few of my colleagues organized a deep sea fishing trip a few weeks back. That would be my 1st and probably the last time i am going deep sea fishing. Caught ikan billis sized fishes. I didn't get sea sick but the crazy boat rocking is not something that i wanna experience EVER again. Just look at my sick colleagues in ta photo :-P

Celebrated my bday a few weeks back. Time flies so fast these days

Our activity this weekend. My colleague opened a tiny stall at Balmain markets selling photographs and turkish earings. Spent sometime with him at his stall.

Not really prodding you la!

Funny you should mention a mad rush - I am up to mine eyeballs in work as well. Keeping in touch with old friends is a good a way as any to de-stress!

I get your point about family - sometimes I really wonder why I'm working so hard when doing so leaves me with so little time for the people who matter most in my life.

Eh..I thought construction is a little slow in Msia at the moment. Hire more ppl lah ^_^

I suppose if you wanna search for old friends, facebook is the way. Everyone is there (count me out.. i never update my FB acc)

We are at the stage of our lives when most of us will be working like dogs... i think our responsibilities peaks in these few years.

Actually we're now in Singapore as well, so the combination of the two is still plenty of work. Can't complain, I suppose...

It's not the hiring part - it's finding quality people! The people that you get nowadays are just amazing - just ask Michelle :-)

I suppose employees and the employers expectation needs to be similar. Some employers expect the employee to work 7 days and be on call 24/7 and work as hard as the employers... and most employees expect..errrrr...to be an employee ^_^

The engineers and managers in my office are hard and intelligent workers. They do pack in the hours during work days, but weekends is mostly strictly personal time.

Employers want: MORE work, LESS pay

Employees want: LESS work, MORE pay! (and while we're at it, Facebook / Twitter / etc. access during work hours)

And never the twain shall meet :-(

I understand all about the work/life balance, but what balance should there be when you're only 25 and at the start of your career?

Must be some fundamental disconnect between us dinosaurs and the New Gen Y-ers...

Hey Benno, you're finally back. Yeah I can emphatise with the pile of work...It's been work work work, then family family family. :) Frankly, had not had a chance to link up with anyone. Promised Ah Yang a lunch meetup a while back...been so swamped that I still have not been able to do that.

Oi, you back here and did not even call ? Speaking of which, I am planning to be in KL last weekend of Nov.

Hey YYee, the moto is you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Of course, TT Durai don't count. I'm in the midst of hiring people, and you should see the new graduates we get out of Uni now. Were we that bad ???? Hey, you around town area ? Maybe we should plan on a lunch meetup between you, me and Ah Yang. Whatdaya say ?

Lunch is good, though I'm not always in Singapore.

When did you have in mind?

Oooo... some signs of life at long last!

Can I recommend that you guys update on FB? It's easier, I guess. I pose my photos there if you want to take a look.

We try to find time for ourselves just to keep us sane. For me, it's playing bball once per week (unless I'm travelling), photography & fishing. Sometimes I consider lawn-mowing therapeutic!

Ah Ben, you'd be pleased to know I managed to convince my wife to go camping or 'glamping' as she puts it. It's not the ruff & tuff kind but this is at a kid- and family-friendly campsite with nice bathrooms/toilets and good amenities. We did sleep in a tent though. Well, can't complain as long as the family enjoys it.

BTW, if you want to go out on a fishing charter, you need to go to Cairns. I caught a shark but had to cut it loose. Bloody good fight though!

Take care, everyone!

Not a fan of FB.. can't explain why, i am just not comfortable wif it :-P

i dunno about paying high and getting good workers. i see a lot of lazy and incapable people getting massive salaries ^_^

I second Ben on both comments!

Modern monkeys will simply take all the peanuts on offer while still remaining monkeys :-)

Wow...Alan, you're living the high life. going on fishing charters catching sharks soon it'll be Marlins...No such luck here man. I'm still slogging out. I wish I got peanuts. The peanut shells I've been getting was even carved up. So now I get a fraction of a peanut shell. Sigh.

Yeah, I tend to agree with you guys on FB. However, you'll notice my FB page is being updated. :). Of course, not by me though. I have only logged into my account like 5-8 times ?

Lingie,
How can that be living the high life? The "high life" is eating caviar, smoking cigars and sipping champagne on a Wednesday afternoon after a round of golf at Capitol. Not my cup of tea...

I prefer a more rugged lifestyle to compliment the arse-kissing culture at work and the hectic schedule of start-ups I'm involved with.

You guys crack me up... Spending quality time with family is good and it's a must. Weekends are meant to be personal time.

But I do say, it gets frustrating when the equation does not tally... and yes YY knows what I mean. We've chatted about this over & over again.

Anyway, its summer, so more camping, more time off to relax and spend time with what matters most.

Hmmm ... aren't you lucky I stopped by? Or I'd have never known you'd posted a pic of me .. Yes, that photo is OK :)

Oi, you were in HK??

Actually, I think in general a lot of the youngies these days are monkeys ... in or out of the office/workplace. Courtesy, consideration and respect seem to have become obsolete in recent times.

Also, yes if you've been wondering ... I'm considering updating my blog.

Hi All,
I'm also lazy with catching up with you all. Busy with work and family.

Hi Ben,
Well done on the last two blogs (trip to HK & M'sia and iPhone thingie). Sticking with Nokia E65, after choosing wrong phones Samsung Omnia & HTC Touch Pro.

Hi Ling Foong,
I'm slowing down on Facebook's Barnbuddy ... Cat is the winner! Lunch with me? When? After Christmas good?

Yiing Yee,
Nowsdays there is too much entertainment/things around us (iPhone, video games, internet, facebook, etc) ... New Gen Y is mostly on them. So less time is put on work. You will see some panda here & there. :D

Michelle,
Go for Blackberry (qwerty keys), as it is build for secure email. While iPhone is build for applications (mostly games) and surfing internet.

Karen,
Well done on parenting! Heard all your kids listens to you. Mine 2 boys are chaos (hard to manage). But if you separate them ... it is easy to handle.

Good bye.
